Mercury Retrograde & Enhanced Solar Activity

Headlining this issue is Mercury's retrograde, the recent enhanced solar activity and Uranus' station. Uranus is primed to increase the intimacy of its tango with Pluto as it begins retrograde motion on July 12 (see June 25 newsletter for more information on how you can best cultivate this empowering Uranus-Pluto energy).

C and M and X class solar flares, oh my!
The solar storms have been intense for the past week. There was one X-class (the strongest) solar flare on July 7 and there have been over 20 M-Class flares (2nd strongest) since July 4. Some of these flares produced coronal mass ejections (CMEs), which are clouds of plasma and charged particles that are hurled into space during solar storms. It is now understood that major geomagnetic storms are induced by coronal mass ejections (CMEs). NASA reports that when a CME reaches the Earth, "its impact disturbs the Earth’s magnetosphere, setting off a geomagnetic storm. A CME typically takes 3 to 5 days to reach the Earth after it leaves the Sun. Only recently, with SOHO, has it been possible to continuously observe the emission of CMEs from the Sun and determine if they are aimed at the Earth.” The CME hurled into space on July 4th reached Earth early on July 7th. A CME that left the sun on July 6 could impact Earth today or tomorrow. An M6.9 flare is expected to hit the Earth's magnetic field within the next 48 hours and will likely keep geomagnetic activity at enhanced levels.

Why should you care? I played Sherlock Holmes and investigated the effects the solar activity has on humans because I've noticed a pattern of symptoms that arise within me each time there is intense solar activity. In case you have been feeling discombobulated as well, may you find the information I uncovered helpful. There is a growing body of evidence that demonstrates that changes in the geomagnetic field do affect biological systems. In recent years, Scientist have discovered that the Earth's magnetic fields have a profound influence on the human nervous system, immune system and even consciousness itself. The Carlini Institute reports that “in recent years Scientist have discovered that the Earth’s magnetic fields are far more significant than they previously thought. They now know that the human brain contains millions of tiny magnetic particles. These particles connect us to the Earth’s magnetic field in a powerful way as a human antenna. We are both transmitters and receivers of subtle energy, or consciousness; a timeless interconnectedness that somehow encompasses the very foundation of our life."

For the Earth, the solar activity is also creating some extraordinary weather patterns and we've all been feeling that impact. It influences our inner emotional weather as well--shows up as spontaneous eruptions of puddles in the eyes, waves of sadness washing over us for no obvious reason, and free floating anxiety. The body experiences symptoms as well. Dr. Lim, TAO Grand Master of the Qi-Mag Institute, said “Solar flares, through their extreme magnetic effects, affect the central nervous system, brain activity and equilibrium (balance), our thought patterns, human behaviors, and mental-emotional-physical responses. Therefore solar flares can cause humans and all living beings to be nervous, anxious, worrisome, jittery, dizzy, shaky, irritable, lethargic, exhausted, and can even produce short term memory loss, heart palpitations and headaches in the very sensitive.”

The good news, the gift and the benefits we are receiving from these solar storms and the current planetary activity is that imbalances are being corrected--this impacts Mother Earth, human physiology and all the social structures that are meant to support human life. The activity taking place on the sun impacts not only the earth but all the cosmic bodies that orbit the sun in our solar system. This energetic impetus is shifting us from an ego-centric, separatist paradigm to a heart-centered, "we're all in this together" consciousness so that life can be a WooHoo-ing experience for each and everyone of us.

You do not need to know precisely what is happening, or exactly where it is all going. What you need is to recognize the possibilities and challenges offered by the present moment, and to embrace them with courage, faith and hope. ~Thomas Merton

Mercury Retrograde 1-12 degrees of Leo
Mercury entered its shadow on June 27, begins retrograde motion on July 14, returns to direct motion on August 8 and surfaces from its retrograde shadow on August 22. For general Mercury retrograde pointers, you'll enjoy the Mercury retrograde article on my website. Most importantly, hold off on making any major decisions or signing of new contracts. Mercury retrograde signifies it's time to draw on knowledge and guidance from within yourself. Give careful consideration to all the possible ramifications of pending actions and decisions. Take care of unfinished business, especially business put into motion during the months following Mercury's last retrograde period.

The quieter you become, the more you are able to hear- Rumi

Leo's archetypes are the King/Queen and the Performer. This is the sign of the zodiac where creative self-expression reaches a peak. From Leo's perspective, all the world's a stage! With Mercury spending an extensive amount of time in Leo, we all have a prolonged opportunity to decide if we most enjoy creating joyful celebrations of life's beauty and abundance or if we prefer to create life-depleting melodrama. It's our choice and we'll be asked to make that choice often during this Mercury retrograde.

Minute by minute, thought by thought, your mind is what shapes your life. ~ Gurumayi

Mercury is having an extended stay in Leo to remind you that it's your performance; your life story. You are writer, producer, director, stage hand and star of your story--how would you like to tell it? Become aware of your specialness and celebrate that you are unique--there's not another one exactly like you! And you have something special that only you and no-one else is able to contribute to the whole. Your job is to figure out what that is. And to avoid the Leo shadow which is to forget that everyone else is every bit as special as you--not more so, not less so but equally so. This Mercury retrograde, drop the serious world (you don't want to be making any major decisions at this time anyway!) so, have a party, play at life, laugh often, and be generous of heart--that's the Leo spirit--and encourage all the lights shining around you to shine as brightly as your own!

Leo is the zodiac sign that governs the heart. Research through the perspective of a new discipline, called neurocardiology, has provided critically important insights into the nervous system within the heart and how the brain and heart communicate with each other via the nervous system. The Institute of HeartMath reported that after extensive research, "one of the early pioneers in neurocardiology, Dr. J. Andrew Armour, introduced the concept of a functional "heart brain" in 1991. His work revealed that the heart has a complex intrinsic nervous system that is sufficiently sophisticated to qualify as a "little brain" in its own right. The heart’s brain is an intricate network of several types of neurons, neurotransmitters, proteins and support cells like those found in the brain proper. Its elaborate circuitry enables it to act independently of the cranial brain – to learn, remember, and even feel and sense." Additionally, the magnetic field of our heart is the largest magnetic field in our body.

So, how does all this fit with Mercury in Leo? Mercury symbolizes how we think, perceive, and process information and communicate with our environment. Mercury's first lesson is always to understand the inherent neutrality of all that occurs, that nothing has meaning until we give it meaning. And the meaning we give something determines how we respond to it. With Mercury in Leo we have the glorious opportunity to actively and consciously bring heart to these processes--to allow our mind to be put in service to the heart. Ultimately, an enlightened Leo understands that its creative expression is meant to ignite the spark of magnificence in all it contacts. Enlightened Leo knows that it's much more fun to share the stage than to dance alone. With Mercury retrograde in Leo, we are establishing new neural pathways between our heart and brain. We are learning it's up to us to reprogram our conditioned mind--to make it an act of will if needed to ensure we think life-affirming thoughts, strive to "see the love" even when it's veiled in darkness, and then to respond with goodwill (instead of reacting with judgment and harshness). If we all do this, just make this small effort, can you imagine how different the world around us will be in just a few short weeks?
